A new version of the Forpheus table tennis robot demonstrates its skills during a public event at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Koto Ward, Tokyo. The robot played against a two-person team in late July at the museum, also known as Miraikan. The previous model of the robot, developed by electronics device maker Omron Corp., was only able to play against a single opponent, but the new version can handle a pair of opponents because the robot’s artificial intelligence can read such factors as a person’s facial expressions, heart rates and bodily movements. The Forpheus will be displayed through Thursday.
