A bipartisan group of Diet members chaired by House of Councillors President Hidehisa Otsuji has canceled a group visit to Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo on Monday to mark the anniversary of the end of World War II amid a surge in coronavirus cases.

House of Representatives member Ichiro Aisawa, the group’s vice chair, will visit the shrine on behalf of the lawmakers on the day.
