NAGOYA — Farmers have started harvesting high-end “Amahibiki” pears in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture. At Yoko Sugiura’s fruit farm, she carefully picked the pears while checking their ripeness.
Amahibiki, a variety developed in the city, are famous for their sweetness and crunchy texture. As they gain in popularity, the space needed to grow them increases every year. According to Sugiura, 66, the combination of the pear’s early flowering, moderate rainfall, and abundant sunshine has resulted in high-quality fruit. Harvest season will continue until mid-August.
